CHARLES LEONARD GRANT
Charles Leonard Grant of Mountain View died May 20, 2021. He was 94.
He was a fifth-generation San Franciscan who lived in the same house in Mountain View for 57 years.
Charlie, as he was known to his family and friends, was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco and UC Berkeley. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was an auditor for the General Services Association in San Francisco and later an accountant for companies in the Silicon Valley. In retirement, he served as a docent for the Fallon House in San Jose, the Ainsley House in Campbell and the Rengstorff House in Mountain View. He dressed up in period garb and never failed to entertain visitors with his tours. He had a way with both numbers and words.
Charlie continued to bike and ski well into his eighties, until he finally followed doctor's orders. In fact, he won a downhill skiing competition in his age category as late as the age of 84. He remained vigorous until the end.
Charlie is survived by sons Scott Grant, Glenn Grant and Bruce Grant; daughters-in-law Karen Grant, Lola Grant and Denise Soultanian; and grandchildren Christina Grant, Bethany Grant, Alaska Grant, Dakota Grant and Montana Grant. He said he had a "full house": three granddaughters and two grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Grant, in 1990.
"Every day is a reward," Charlie said.
