Carol Freislinger, née Johnson, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in Palo Alto, California, at the age of 83.

Born on October 29, 1942, in the elevator at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, Carol was the beloved daughter of Marian and Walter (Waldemar) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her only brother, Robert Johnson, who passed away just weeks before her.

Carol is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, George Freislinger; her daughter, Kirsten (Freislinger) Luehrs; her son-in-law, Brian Luehrs; and her three cherished granddaughters: Anna Johnson (Griffin), Clara Luehrs, and Georgia Frances Luehrs. Nothing brought Carol greater pride than watching the younger generations spread their wings through education, travel, and new adventures. She was unwavering in her encouragement, always cheering them on with love and confidence.

As a young woman, Carol was proud of her professional work at Chicago Dryer, often recalling those years with fondness. She later devoted her remarkable talents to creating a beautiful home and a welcoming life for family and friends. A gifted decorator and gracious hostess, she maintained her home with impeccable care, filling it with warmth, creativity, beauty, and light. Her legendary cream puffs and cherished Christmas Eve Julbord buffets became treasured family traditions and set a standard that will be remembered for generations.

Carol possessed a quiet determination and a touch of rebellion. After smoking for 40 years, she made the remarkable decision to quit—a testament to her strength and resolve. In 1995, she and George moved to California, where they embraced three decades of retirement together. They found joy in the natural beauty and wine country of southern Santa Clara County and built lasting friendships with their beloved neighborhood posse, sharing countless adventures, laughter, and celebrations.

A creative spirit throughout her life, Carol enjoyed painting, decorating, gardening, and a wide variety of arts and crafts. She and George transformed their backyard into a garden they nurtured and enjoyed together for many years. Carol believed in planting many different things to discover what would thrive. She also had a lifelong love of cats and dogs, whose companionship brought her great joy. She had an eye for beauty and a talent for creating a warm, welcoming home where ordinary moments became special.

Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example, enriched by her traditions, and forever grateful for the love she gave so freely. Her memory will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
