Obituary of Barbara Brauer Tierney

Barbara Brauer Tierney passed away peacefully at her home with family and Hospice by her side at the age of 89. She was born in Chicago and received a Bachelors Degree in Winter Park Florida, from Rollins College. She married her best friend Robert E Tierney in 1949 in Chicago and moved to Los Altos Hills in 1954 to raise her family. Barbara is survived by her 4 children, Bob Jr, Tim, Nancy and Terry and her 6 grandchildren, Tara, Jennifer, William, Patrick, Sean-Paul, Sigrid and Emmett. Barbara had a sparkling personality and never met anyone that wasn't her friend for life. She played tennis in to her 60's, was active in "The Children's Home Society" and volunteered at the Discovery Shop in Los Altos well into her 70's. Barbara also edited the Tierney Christmas Newsletter for 49 years and had a mailing list of over 240 addresses. She always added a personal note to everyone of the letters. The Christmas Newsletter kept friends and family, near and far, updated on the Tierney household from the previous year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Discovery Shop in Los Altos, CA. A Mass in her honor will be celebrated at Saint Nicholas Church in Los Altos and she will be laid to rest at Gates of Heaven in Los Altos. There will be a reception to follow at her home at 15 Deep Well Lane.
