Obituary

Alexander "Alex" Felix Santos joined his family in heaven on Jan 17, 2024, at the age of 93. Born in Honolulu, HI on May 30, 1930, Alex was the fourth of John and Julia Santos' six children. During World War II, the family moved to Sacramento, CA where Alex attended Christian Brothers High School. After high school, he attended Santa Clara University for two years and then was drafted and served in the US Army during the Korean War mainly using his drawing skills to create maps. The war ended before he was deployed and he continued his education at the University of Detroit where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering. In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Norma Schneider, and they settled in Sacramento where they raised their 5 children.

As an architect for a couple of private firms in Sacramento, Alex worked primarily on public and hospital buildings. Later in his career, he worked for the State of California, Transportation Department as a Senior Architect which included working on California's network of safety roadside rest areas.

Alex was a warm, kind, patient and friendly man with a great sense of humor. He easily engaged with everyone he met and loved to brighten someone's day with a smile or funny face and humorous quip. He shared his love of sports, board games and word puzzles with his children and grandchildren. He was also a man of great integrity and faith, who with Norma made many sacrifices to ensure their children could attend Catholic schools from kindergarten through college.

His generous, joyful and faithful spirit will be missed by many.

Alex is survived by his children: Cathy Cepress (Randy), Barbara Santos-Johnson (Mark), Laura Reidenbach (Ed), Alex Santos (Anita); his grandchildren Carl(Kara), Jon (Eunju), Allissa (Albert), Patrick, Andy (Jen), Danny, Jay (Cassandra), Allyson (Joel) and Ariel and his 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Sue Schneider and MaryAnn Kvasager. He was predeceased by his wife of
60 years, Norma Santos, their infant daughter, Gerilyn, his parents and brothers John Santos, Tom Santos, and his sisters Wilhelmina Holtz, Julia Santos and Eleanor Burkhart. Alex will also be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews.

A vigil and rosary will be held on Monday 1/22, 4-6 pm at Spangler Mortuary 399 S San Antonio; Los Altos, CA 94022.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, 1/23 at 10 am at Saint Simon Catholic Parish 1860 Grant Road; Los Altos, CA 94024, followed by the burial at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery 22555 Cristo Rey Dr, Los Altos, CA 94024.
