Obituary of Adam John Velez

Adam John Velez, beloved son of Christine Burnett and the late John J Velez Jr., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 17th 2011 at the age of 42. Born February 28, 1969 in Mountain View, California, Adam was a sweet and fun-loving child with a passion for many things, and an uncanny ability to learn. A dedicated brother, Adam charged himself with protecting his younger sister, Pilar, and teaching her to read by the time she was 4. From early childhood his easygoing nature garnered him many friendships that lasted his whole life. Adam's interests varied widely, matched only by his ability to acquire nearly any skill he desired. An avid learner, Adam held degrees in Fine Arts (Music), Business Accounting, and Computer Graphics, and was a Certified Public Accountant. Mechanically, he could fix anything from a washing machine to a carburetor. Adam loved music, and had through his life learned to play piano and classical and electric guitar, and dabbled in singing. His love for music also translated to dance, as Adam became an accomplished salsa dancer, participating in dances at studios throughout the Bay Area. With his generous nature, Adam touched the hearts and lives of many who knew him. He gave of himself however and whenever he could, helping friends and family in need. His desire for community revealed itself in many ways, including active participation in church and local community organizations. He loved family more than anything, and as a result of his love and devotion he kept his family connected across the miles and years. Adam is survived by his mother, Christine and step-father Bob Burnett; sister Pilar Velez and brother-in-law Leonard Cano (nieces Summer and Madeline Cano); step siblings Jeremy Burnett, Becca Pitts (Josh); grandmother Adeline Silva; aunt Colleen Iverson (Greg); uncles Mick Silva, Mark Silva (Melinda), John Silva (Dee); and over twenty loving cousins. Private services have been held, and the family encourages Adam's friends to gather and celebrate his life in their own way.
