On August 11, 2024, Agnes Bernadette "Bobbie" (nee Schruefer) Bichell, age 97 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Portola Valley California.

Bernadette grew up and lived in the Baltimore, Maryland area until moving to California in 2019 after the passing of her husband of 69 years, to live with her daughter Jean Gould, son-in-law Jeff Gould and their family. She worked in settings that ranged from steel mills to doctors offices before devoting full and exceptional attention to the education and inspiration of her 6 children, who have grown by her example of undivided devotion, ingenuity, creative spirit and work ethic.  An exceptionally capable and resourceful mother, she was at once a talented painter, seamstress, Cub Scout den mother, avid gardener and extraordinary cook.  She returned to school in her 5th decade to complete a nursing degree and embark on a 15 year career in nursing at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren value all she has taught them and she lives on in all of them every day.

Bernadette was wife of the late William Bichell, daughter of the late Joseph Schreufer and Marie (nee Hangarter) Schreufer. She is survived by her children John Bichell and Vida Bucinskas-Bichell, David and Terry Jo (Vetters) Bichell, Kenneth and Mary (Loney) Bichell, William Bichell (Melanie Brusco), Jean (Bichell) and Jeff Gould, and daughter-in-law Katie Gomez (widow of James Bichell). Grandmother  of Jonas Bucinskas-Bichell, Gintas Bucinskas-Bichell, Zina (Bucinskas-Bichell) and Nick D'Alessio, Beth Hochman (Frank Curtis), Rae Ellen Bichell (Alessandro Franchin), Lena Bichell (Chris Dienst), Rosa Lee Bichell, Lou Bichell, Dasani Bichell, Madeline Bichell, Graham Bichell, Owen Bichell Gould and Liam Bichell Gould; great-grandmother of Elio Bichell Franchin and Ada Lou Bichell Franchin. Predeceased by son James Bichell and granddaughter Eleanor Bichell.
